Mitsuko Uchida to Perform with CSO Chamber Ensemble

This Sunday, February 28, at 3:00 p.m. Chicago's Symphony Center Presents PowerShares QQQ Chamber Music series continues with renowned pianist Mitsuko Uchida making her only Symphony Center appearance this season in a chamber music program of works by Schumann and Mozart. Joining Uchida for this performance are Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) principals Stephen Williamson (clarinet), Keith Buncke (bassoon), and John Sharp (cello), associate principal Daniel Gingrich (horn) and guest musician Nathan Hughes -- Principal Oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

The program will open with three chamber works by Schumann dating from 1849, one of the composer's most productive years.

The works include Schumann's Adagio and Allegro for Horn and Piano, which was his first piece written for the newly developed valve horn; the Three Romances for Oboe and Piano; and Three Fantasy Pieces for Clarinet and Piano.

Completing the program are two works by Mozart, the Sonata for Bassoon and Cello in B-flat Major, K. 292, and the Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, K. 452.

Born in Japan and naturalized in England, pianist Mitsuko Uchida continues to engage audiences with her refreshing interpretations of both classical and contemporary chamber music. Uchida's musical accomplishments have included residencies with The Cleveland Orchestra, CSO and the Berlin Philharmonic, concerts and tours worldwide, and directorship of the prestigious Marlboro Music Festival.

Uchida's appearance at Symphony Center for this chamber music recital marks another artistic collaboration with the musicians of the CSO which started with her CSO subscription debut in 1986.
