A series of new set photos from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been released. In the pics, we see Spidey wearing a fireman's hat while wielding a fire hose. We also get a look at the film's main villain, Max Dillion, A.K.A. Electro. Will the official trailer follow soon? SPOILERS FOLLOW.
Jamie Foxx is creating a lot of buzz with his role as Electro in the upcoming Spider-Man film. However, Foxx won't be the only villain to face off against the web-slinger. Paul Giamatti will be playing the Rhino, alongside Foxx's Electro. Giamatti recently spoke with The Toronto Sun about his character in the film:
"In the comic books of old, he had this suit on that made him look like a rhinoceros, and it made him super strong. If there was a bank vault he would just run right through it. Butt through it with his head. And he was not very smart."
Giamatti adds that his version of the Rhino will be updated from the classic:
"I have a particular kind of suit, but I don't think I'm supposed to talk about it. He's a Russian mobster. Russians are always good villains. I have an ability to just destroy things. My accent is pretty hammy. I loved doing it. it seemed to me like an opportunity to be as over-the-top hammy as possible. It was really fun."
Where Spider-Man is gaining a lot of new enemies, he is also losing a few love interests. It was recently reported that Shailene Woodley's role as Mary Jane Watson has been cut from the film. Woodley spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the issue:
"Of course I’m bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason...Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film."
Hollywood Life spoke with an unnamed insider who offers some additional details on the plot that got Woodley cut from the film. Warning Major Spoilers Follow:
"Emma Stone’s character dies in the next film and that really would take a bunch out of the film if Spider-Man all the sudden starts dating a new girl so close to an important character's death. They were noticing this occurring as they filmed Shailene’s scenes. They want to make the death of Gwen Stacy really mean something and then it will leave room for Shailene to shine in the third film."
