Next at the Armory: Black History Month, Family Programs & Jason Moran

The Park Avenue Armory invites you Friday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m., to celebrate Black History Month at with their first conversation of the 2016 season, Two Souls, Two Thoughts: The Art of African American History. In conjunction with the Aspen Institute Arts Program, the Park Avenue Armory has gathered artists, writers and cultural commentators to share their unique, ongoing, and evolving engagements with African American history.

Moderated by writer Stacia Brown, participants include vocalist and composer Imani Uzuri, multi-media artist Jasmine Murrell, novelist and playwright Darryl Pinckney, photographer and professor Deborah Willis, and writer Carl Hancock Rux.

Next up for the Armory this season is their Family Program: How Myth Inspired Armory Designers slated for Saturday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. Perseus and Medusa, Androcles and the Lion, Hermes, Orpheus and a host of other epic heroes from ancient mythology influenced the interior design of the beautiful and historic company rooms at Park Avenue Armory.

Through storytelling, movement, and media the Family Program will trace the mythological roots of some of the popular images we see around us every day.

Monday, March 7, at 7 and 9:30 a.m. will see Jazz pianist and composer Jason Moran take the stage for two awe inspiring performances.

Having already released nine albums of his own, Moran inaugurates the reopening of the Veterans Room with a performance of works for solo piano, commemorating the auspicious occasion with a live recording for future release.
