Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) will participate in the 80th anniversary of Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival next week.
The world's premier dance company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, will be traveling to Massachusetts from August 1 to 5 to join the festival.
Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, founded in 1933 by Ted Shawn, is America's longest-running dance festival and has been a mecca of dance for eight decades. Based in Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts, "the Pillow" served as the platform for RWB's launch onto the international scene in 1964, under the direction of the late Artistic Director Emeritus Dr. Arnold Spohr.
Founded in 1939 by Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Farrally, RWB is the oldest ballet company in Canada. RWB's performances will feature three unique pieces that showcase the diverse repertoire and incredible talent of the Company, including Peter Quanz's In Tandem, the pas de deux from As Above So Below by acclaimed choreographer Mark Godden, and Carmina Burana by world-renowned artist Mauricio Wainrot.
The festival will feature acclaimed dance companies from all across the globe including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Israel and the United States.
