Yefim Bronfman and the New York Philharmonic Premiere an Evening of Liszt Feb. 18

Next in the New York Philharmonic's canon of concerts is a special performance of all things Liszt with the effervescent Yefim Bronfman on piano. Beginning Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m., the New York Phil will take to David Geffen Hall for a 4-night engagement of the timless composer.

Franz Liszt may have been a proverbial "rock star" in his time, sure, but his reach extends further than just the 19th century. With Juraj Valčuha conducting and Mr. Bronfman on the keys, the bill will also feature works by Dvořák, Ravel, and Kodaly.

According to the New York Phil website:

"There's no disputing that Franz Liszt was a 19th-century rock star of the piano. Be there when Yefim Bronfman joins the Philharmonic for this Liszt masterpiece, the epitome of virtuosity. You're in good hands with the 'powerhouse virtuoso who appears unruffled by the most demanding works in the repertoire' (The Wall Street Journal). Plus folk tunes abound in works by Dvořák, Ravel, and Kodaly."

This next installment comes after a successful engagement of Mahler's Symphony No. 6 last week. The New York Times reviewed the opening night of Mahler--with maestro Semyon Bychkov--as saying "The Philharmonic remains a superb Mahler orchestra more than a century after the composer led it and half a century after Leonard Bernstein secured its Mahler tradition, and Mr. Bychkov made the most of it despite the hall's intractable acoustics."

So after an excellent outing with Mahler, we move onto what can only be surmised as a glorious night with Liszt. As always, the performance will be held at David Geffen Hall and will run a total of an hour and 30 minutes with an intermission.

Prior to the event, the Phil will offer an open rehearsal at 9:45 a.m. on opening night and a Pre-Concert Insights segment before every evening at 6:30 p.m.
