Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris have been inseparable ever since they became official back in 2015. So when Swift showed up with Selena Gomez at the Grammy Awards 2016 ceremony and not with Harris, it was such a big deal and everyone wanted to know what is up.
Although Swift and Gomez may be the cutest pair at the Grammys, it was very suspicious that the 26-year-old "Bad Blood" hitmaker's boyfriend was a no-show. Knowing that it was a huge night for Taylor and Harris had always been her number one supporter, was there trouble in paradise?
The reason of his absence turns out to be about Swift's relationship with her girlfriends and it has nothing to do with any sort of problems with her 32-year-old superstar DJ boyfriend.
“Taylor wanted to send a message to her fans all over the world that friendship and girl power is what it’s all about," a source told HollywoodLife exclusively. "She treasures her relationship with Selena and has never ever made her friends come second to any boyfriend she’s ever had."
Harris knows how much Swift treasures her friends and that she's a strong woman who can carry herself well and fight her own battles.
“Calvin totally understands this and knew she had a strong acceptance speech she wanted to give to all her fans, particularly her female fans," the source continued. "Plus Taylor wanted to prove that she can stand alone in the face of bullies, like Kanye West. She doesn’t need a guy to protect her and she doesn’t need a man to define who she is.”
The songwriter and record producer then joined his lady love during the Grammys 2016 after-party to celebrate Swift's big win. "He was so excited for her," a source told E! News. "Taylor was so happy to be around Calvin."
