BBC Magazine Becomes Apple Music's Exclusive Classical Curator

It's been announced that BBC Music Magazine, the world's best-selling classical music magazine, is the first classical brand to also adopt the Apple Music brand. It will continue its domain as a classical giant alongside playing exclusive host to Apple's classical music playlists.

With this new pairing, the BBC publication allows readers to listen to a specifically tailored J.S. Bach playlist while reading the issue's Composer of the Month feature. Of course, the mag will also continue its series of reviewed recordings and everything else on the Apple backlog.

In a release, Oliver Condy, Editor of BBC Music Magazine, said:

"We're delighted, as the world's biggest-selling classical music magazine, to be able to share our passion for classical music with Apple Music members. Our readers will discover a wealth of new music, and the magazine will gain a new audience."

Right now, the featured playlists on the BBC side include an anthology of Mendelssohn, Robert Burns alongside Haydn and the other great composers, the music of John Adams and the best of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

In the same vein as the Grammys earlier this week, in which Recording Academy president Neil Portnow and hip-hop artist Common used the yearly time slot to speak about streaming services, this could help classical music get on the bandwagon with providing easier access to its music.

But again, the services are inherently flawed and will take some getting used to for the time being, with Mr. Portnow saying, "When you stream a song, all the people that created that music receive a fraction of a penny. Isn't a song worth more than a penny?"

Regardless, Apple Music has launched its exclusive partnership with BBC Music Magazine in providing musicgoers with access to rich classical music accompanied with the BBC brand.

Speaking of Mendelssohn, give one of the featured artists a preview below.
