With New Hampshire in the bag, Bernie Sanders has been receiving innumerable endorsements from activists abound with the most recent being Harry Belafonte. Citing in a video that Sanders represents "a moral imperative," Belafonte spoke with Chris Hayes about why he feels Sanders is the perfect representative.
A known civil rights activist and legendary musician, Mr. Belafonte made the announcement of his endorsement on YouTube, which was released by the Vermont Senator's campaign last Thursday.
In the video, Belafonte says:
"I would suggest to those of you who have not yet made up your minds, or maybe even some of you who have made up your minds, to maybe consider and reconsider what it is that Bernie Sanders offers. He offers us a chance to declare unequivocally that there is a group of citizens who have a deep caring for where our nation goes and what it does in the process of going."
The entertainer, who was close with Mr. Martin Luther King Jr. has always held a strong and outspoken political agenda, even criticizing President Obama and his cabinet for failing to act on the intrusive practices of the Patriot Act and in dealing with race relations internally in the U.S.
Belafonte, also, received a Governors Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in November 2014.
With the Nevada caucuses on Feb. 20, both candidates are vying for the support of minority voters. Bernie Sanders, along with Mr. Belafonte's endorsement, could be a detail to note for the upcoming primary.
Until then, take a listen to Mr. Belafonte's interview with NBC below and keep in mind his endorsement for future primaries as we trace the trajectory of Sanders' race for the candidacy.
