‘50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Cast Rumors: Jamie Dornan Comments After Charlie Hunnam Quit Christian Role [UPDATE]

More news is coming from the cast of the 50 Shades of Grey movie. Jamie Dornan has commented for the first time after Charlie Hunnam quit the role of Christian Grey. Spoiler Alert: It’s not what you think.

Dorman finally broke his silence after being cast as the lead role in the film adaptation of EL James highly-popular erotic novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. But the actor didn’t use the opportunity to plug the film and his role in it.

Instead, the Irish heartthrob plugged a business that is owned by some family friends. In his first tweet since September, Jamie told followers:

“People I care about made an advert. Apart from the obvious fire hazard, I think it’s great. Looking sharp, CB!”

Our friends at International Business Times offered a summary of the commercial:

“The advertisement, which promotes Fred J. Malcolm Ltd., a family-owned jewelry store based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, doesn’t portray Dornan as Christian Grey, but it does tell the love story of a man and a woman and the man's extensive efforts to pull off an elaborate marriage proposal.”

For many, this seemed like an odd decision to break his silence and not plug the film, which has been one of the most talked about projects of the year. Of course, he may be trying to avoid any questions about Charlie Hunnam.

It was Hunnam, after all, who was initially chosen to play Christian Grey. But weeks before shooting was scheduled to begin, Hunnam abruptly left the project.

The film studio released the following statement in regards to Charlie’s exit:

“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

The studio was left scrambling to fill his shoes in just a matter of weeks. Despite their speedy casting decision, production was still pushed back, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

“The production, which was scheduled to begin shooting in early November, will now begin filming on Dec. 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The delay raises the question of whether or not the film can be ready in less than eight months to meet its current release date of Aug. 1, 2014. If not, the film would likely be jettisoned out of the summer frame.”
