London's West End is gearing up for the upcoming Harry Potter and The Cursed Child play coming out this July. Well even if you can't make it across the pond to see the show, have no fear. J.K.Rowling will be releasing a new book in the Potter series based on the script for the play. The book will consist of a rehearsal edition of the play, which will later be replaced with the final product.
Late last year, J.K. Rowling released a synopsis of the upcoming play via her Pottermore website, writing:
“It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”
Now that very same script will become the body of a new book, as Rowling’s Pottermore recently revealed:
“Theatre previews allow the creative team the chance to rehearse and explore scenes further before a production’s official opening night. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens for previews several weeks before its official first performance on Saturday 30 July and the Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book will later be replaced by a Definitive Collector’s Edition.”
In addition to the Cursed Child book, Rowling will also re-release four new versions of the first book, one for each house of Hogwarts. A special edition of Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them is also in the works.
