More rumors are flying about the cast of the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie. According to a major tabloid, Katie Holmes may be joining Jamie Dornan, amid claims that the release date will be pushed back. This is due, primarily, to a setback in production, caused by Charlie Hunnam’s abrupt exit.
The National Enquirer is back at it. This time, the less-than-reputable tabloid is claiming that Katie Holmes wants to join the cast of one of Hollywood’s most anticipated films. According to the publication:
“KATIE HOLMES is sexing up her silver-screen image to put herself back on the movie map. And she’s hoping to land a red-hot role in the film version of 50 Shades of Grey. Sources say that Katie, 34, plans on going platinum blonde for the role of Elena Lincoln, kinky billionaire and main character Christian Grey’s longtime sex and business partner.”
The gossip rag goes on to quote a “source” that claims Katie is pretty desperate for the role, via Latin Post:
“She’s looking at this as the role of a lifetime for her. It will shock a lot of people, but she thinks Hollywood will sit up and take notice...She knows she has to reinvent herself."
Though it’s highly unlikely that Holmes will be joining the film, several major roles have been filled in recent weeks. Most notably, Jamie Dornan has taken over the role of Christian Grey.
The position became available when Charlie Hunnam walked away from the film, without giving any real notice. While many theories are circulating, producers from the film released an official statement on Twitter:
“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
However, many aren’t buying that excuse, considering the producers were well aware of Charlie’s shooting schedule. Regardless of the reason, his decision has left the studio in quite a pickle.
A new story from The Hollywood Reporter claims that production has been delayed as a result:
“The production, which was scheduled to begin shooting in early November, will now begin filming on Dec. 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The delay raises the question of whether or not the film can be ready in less than eight months to meet its current release date of Aug. 1, 2014. If not, the film would likely be jettisoned out of the summer frame.”
