George Zimmerman may have been acquitted of the 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin but he still might face civil rights charges. The Justice Department has not ruled out the possibility of any further action against the killer.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder recently spoke with reporters about the possibility of the Justice Department filing civil rights charges against Zimmerman:
“I’m not sure exactly how much longer that will take, but we will get to a point where we are able to make a determination.”
However, he also said that charges might not likely happen, adding:
"The case of George Zimmerman and what happens there, I think a substantial part was resolved in the case that was tried."
Juror number B29 recently said she thought Zimmerman, "Got away with murder," telling ABC News:
"George Zimmerman got away with murder, but you can't get away from God. And at the end of the day, he's going to have a lot of questions and answers he has to deal with. [But] the law couldn't prove it "
She latter elaborated on the subject, saying:
"I was the juror that was going to give them the hung jury. I fought to the end. That's where I felt confused, where if a person kills someone, then you get charged for it. But as the law was read to me, if you have no proof that he killed him intentionally, you can't say he's guilty. As much as we were trying to find this man guilty…they give you a booklet that basically tells you the truth, and the truth is that there was nothing that we could do about it. I feel the verdict was already told."
