Denver Broncos' Danny Trevathan On Chicago Bears, Free Agency: 'I'm Sure We'll End Up Talking'

The Denver Broncos are solely focused on Super Bowl 50 and the Carolina Panthers right now, and so is inside linebacker Danny Trevathan, but that doesn't mean he's ignorant of his upcoming free agency. While saying all of the right things, Trevathan was asked about the prospect of joining John Fox and the Chicago Bears this offseason; to which he responded, "I'm sure we'll end up talking."

For Bears fans, that's excellent news; for Broncos fans, perhaps not so much.

"I believe I can fit in any scheme. Coach Fox is one of the guys that gave me the opportunity to showcase I can fit within the scheme," Trevathan said according to SB Nation. "I'm sure it'll be there, I'm sure we'll end up talking, but right now my main focus is this game. Whatever happens, happens. This game could make or break my contracts. It's up to me to make the most of it. I think I'm doing a good job right now and I'm locked in and focused."

Chicago will certainly be looking to upgrade the roster this offseason. They'll have plenty of cap space, upward of $40 million at least. The defense has quite a few holes, and the inside linebacker positions are lacking a truly experienced, disciplined defender. Trevathan would fill that role and then some.

The 25-year-old has spent his entire four-year career in Denver, and has posted some impressive numbers in two of the last three seasons.

In 2013, Trevathan started all 16 games, posting 129 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. It was his first year as a starter, and was put in that position by Fox. He would have some knee injuries that allowed him to only play three games in 2014 (bone fractures, nothing wrong with ACL or MCL), but bounced back this season with 15 starts. During this 2015 campaign, he put up a team-high 109 tackles, three TFLs and two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

By comparison, no Bears inside linebacker this year had more than 86 tackles, and none had a sack or interception; only Shea McClellin had a forced fumble.

Trevathan would be a tremendous pickup for the Bears this offseason, and should pursue him hard.
