It looks like the Avengers can add Doctor Horrible to the list of bad guys it's defeated. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D have pushed back production on the sequel to 2008's cult hit, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog to 2015 at the earliest. Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion fans are hulking out over the news.
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog was perhaps the only good thing to come out of the 2007-2008 writers' strike. The independent, low-budget Internet musical, created by Avengers director Joss Whedon and his family, quickly became a cult hit. However, now that the strike is long over and Joss has become one of the hottest names in Hollywood, production on Dr. Horrible 2, has been frozen.
Joss Whedon' s younger brother, Zack Whedon, recently spoke with MTV News about having to push back Dr. Horrible to make more room for the Marvel series:
"I think that all of us overestimated our multitasking abilities. It’s not on the front burner, unfortunately. What is on the front burner is Joss’ second Avengers film and Jed and Maurissa’s work on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Despite everyone's heavy schedule's, Zack still held out hope:
"There was a time maybe about a year ago I guess, where it really felt like, ‘We’re gaining steam, this could happen in the spring, let’s do this,’”
Ultimately, the tiny cult musical was crushed by the mighty Disney machine, Zack added:
"There just was not enough time for each of the people involved to focus on it, and for all of us to get into a room together. So the second Avengers movie is going to swallow up any Dr. Horrible hopes for at least another year and a half.”
