New York in The Winter Gets “Too Darn Hot” with NYU Steinhardt’s 'Kiss Me Kate' Production

Are you tired of New York’s cold winter weather? Well, have no fear because things are about to get hot. “Too Darn Hot,” in fact. NYU Steinhardt’s program in Vocal Performance is bringing Cole Porter's mega hit Broadway musical, Kiss Me Kate, to the Frederick Loewe Theatre for a special five night run Feb 4 - 8. The beloved musical was a “spanking” success winning the very first Tony Award for Best Musical in 1949. Kiss Me Kate is based off of and revolves around William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, with the story taking place during a production of the classic play.

Originally performed on Broadway in 1948, the beloved musical Kiss Me Kate featured a book Samuel and Bella Spewack, with music and lyrics by the legendary Cole Porter.

Kiss Me Kate swept the 1949 Tony Awards winning in every category it was nominated for including: Best Musical, Best Author (Musical), Best Original Score, Best Costume Design and Best Producer of a Musical. The 1999 Revival brought in an additional five Tony Awards, as well as seven other nominations.

You can catch NYU’s production of Kiss Me Kate from February 4–6 at 8 p.m., February 7 at 3 p.m., and February 8 at 8 p.m. at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, located at 35 West 4th Street.

The production stage manager is Danielle Teague-Daniels.
