Put on some Huey Lewis, wrap your floors in plastic and make sure you have returned any overdue video tapes, because American Psycho the Musical is getting ready to open on Broadway. The musical's book was written by Marvel Comics and Glee writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with music and lyrics by Spring Awakening's Duncan Sheik. The show originally opened in London and stared Doctor Who vet Matt Smith as Patrick Bateman, but it is Benjamin Walker whose name is on the business card for Broadway. The Broadway production will also reunite Next to Normal mother and daughter pair Alice Ripley and Jennifer Damiano respectively.
American Psycho the Musical is based on the hit 2000 film of the same name starring Christian Bale and Jared Leto. The film itself was an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel.
The official Broadway World description of the American Psycho, reads:
“26-year-old Patrick Bateman is sophisticated, rich and devastatingly handsome. He's got a sculpted body, a model-gorgeous girlfriend, a to-die-for apartment, and a Wall Street job in 1980s New York City. In short, his life's killer. There's just one snag in this dark vision of the American Dream... Patrick can't get the blood out of his $5000 suits.”
American Psycho starts previews on March 24, 2016 with an official opening date set for April 20, 2016. Directed by Rupert Goold, American Psycho the Musical will be performed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre located at 236 West 45th Street.
