The hit-making musical Hamilton will embark on a national tour come March 2017. The first city on the tour is San Francisco and locking in tickets for the performance has proven to be more difficult than intended, with theaters requiring patrons to buy season-long packages as of late.
Audiences who plan to witness the San Francisco staging of Hamilton are facing the unavailability of single tickets. That is, if you want to see the show you have to purchase an entire, full-season subscription before you can enter the SHN Golden Gate Theatre in March. The show also has the same requirement up highway 5 in Log Angeles at the Pantages Theatre. Individual tickets will be made available but a date has not yet been announced.
For the Pantages Theatre event, the musical will run from Aug. 11-Dec. 30, 2017 and will also offer single ticket purchases later on.
Group packages are proving to be quite costly, though. According to the L.A. Times, a complete ticket package at the Pantages for 2016-17 season can range from $1,027 for the best seats in the house to $236 for less sought-after seat locations. The package includes tickets for all seven season productions, including Hamilton.
For San Francisco however, the price for a complete six-show package including Hamilton ranges from $245 to $700.
Before Hamilton hits the West Coast, it will pass through Chicago on Sept. 27, 2016 at the PrivateBank Theater. A West End-London option has also been hanging in the midst.
Have no fear, New York, the production is set to run on Broadway indefinitely--where it all began.
An unfortunate circumstance, it is still certainly exciting that the musical will make its way across the nation as American audiences unable to venture to New York will now have an opportunity for Hamilton to pass through their city.
