Thor 2: The Dark World is just one week away from its U.S. release. The film premiered in select markets overseas this past Wednesday with impressive numbers. The film is already on track to beat the first film's box office numbers with less than a third of its international markets open.
Thor: The Dark World has been unleashed overseas and the Prince of Thunder is taking the world by storm. After being open for only two days in select markets, the film will likely destroy its predecessor.
Deadline is quoting an unnamed executive, who compared the success of the sequel to the first film, saying:
“All signs indicate we’ll have a much higher result. I can’t put a number on it, but by the time we report domestic numbers on November 10, we should be in really great shape.”
IMAX CEO of entertainment and senior executive vice president Greg Foster first announced the film's early release back in August, telling the press:
"Like all the dynamic Marvel characters, Thor has developed a massive global following and we look forward to moviegoers experiencing this highly anticipated next chapter in IMAX 3D. We’re excited to continue to build on our flourishing partnership with Marvel and Disney with this iconic property."
Earlier this week, Disney's executive vice president of theatrical distribution, Dave Hollis, announced that the U.S. 3D release of Thor: The Dark World will feature an exclusive five minute preview of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hollis released a press statement, saying:
"After Marvel’s The Avengers, the Marvel films are more interwoven than ever, and this pairing is the perfect complement to both of the new movies. Thor: The Dark World is going to be an exceptional theater going experience, and this sneak peek will really rev fans up for the return of not only the Mighty Avenger but the First Avenger as well."
Thor: The Dark World opens in the U.S on November 8.
