Gennady Rozhdestvensky Fine to Travel to Chicago for CSO Show?

It was only days ago that legendary Russian Gennady Rozhdestvensky had to cancel a concert with the Dresden Philharmonic, after slipping and falling on the icy concrete outside the hall, but the 84-year-old is already said to back on his feet. According to the latest updates, maestro Rozhdestvensky has already recovered enough to fly to Stockholm, with plans to head on Chicago a few days later. So, it seems that his fans in the Windy City need not worry about the famed conductor missing his upcoming dates with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

On Sunday night, concert-goers at the Dresden Philharmonic's hall found themselves being told the show had just been cancelled, as many of them were just arriving to take their seats.

Unfortunately, the last minute cancelation was unavoidable due to Gennady Rozhdestvensky taking a nasty spill just a half-an-hour before the show with no replacement on standby.

While there was little to be done for the concert goers in Dresden, Rozhdestvensky is said to have recovered sufficiently enough to continue on to his next venue.

The conductor's rep reportedly told Norman Lebrecht at Slipped Disc that Rozhdestvensky is back on his feet and headed to Sweden before going on to the United States at the beginning of February:

"He is okay to travel to Stockholm today and hopes to fly to Chicago next week."

According to the CSO, Rozhdestvensky is returning after a 17-year absence to lead the orchestra is a classic pair of Dmitri Shostakovich's symphonies on February 5 and 6, respectively:

"The lively First Symphony, written when Shostakovich was just 19 years old, reflects the young composer's optimism of the early years in the Soviet Union.

"His quirky and profound Fifteenth Symphony, written 45 years later, includes references to all of his earlier symphonies along with quotes from Rossini's William Tell and Wagner's Ring Cycle."
