NBC Announces New Show from '30 Rock's' Tina Fey, Starring 'The Office's' Ellie Kemper

NBC suffered a great loss last season when both The Office and 30 Rock went off the air. The highly-acclaimed Emmy magnets are widely missed by fans, who are unimpressed with the network's new "broader range" approach to comedy. Now NBC is attempting to return to its former glory. NBC has officially given the green light to 13 episodes of a new series from 30 Rock star and co-creator Tina Fey. To make things even better, the new series will star The Office's very own Ellie Kemper, who played Erin on the hit series.

The new series, tentatively called Tooken, centers around a young woman who, “escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York City.” The series will be produced by 30 Rock alumni Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.

NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt released a statement to the press about the new series, saying:

“Tina and Robert, who cemented their partnership on 30 Rock, have created a new signature comedy for us that is audacious, emotional, and clever. While tapping into very relatable themes, there isn’t anything like this anywhere else on television. NBC has been their home for many years and we’re so happy that they’ve found another way to push the comedy envelope for us.”

NBC's president of entertainment, Jennifer Salke, also added:

“Original voices like Tina and Robert don’t come along very often and we wanted them back on the air as soon as possible. And to have them working with Ellie Kemper--who we watched grow up on The Office from supporting player to leading actress--puts the whole package together. We feel fortunate to be in business with this entire creative team on something so funny, unique, and attention-getting.”

This marks the second series from Fey and Carlock to get a straight to series order. Fox obtained the rights to new new single camera from the duo. The series will reportedly focus on all women's college that opens it's doors to male students for the first time.

The pair also have a work place comedy in the pipeline for NBC. The Cheers-esque series is said to take place in New York's Fire Island and focus on a young woman trying to reunite with her estranged Father.
