The Florida Orchestra will present a rock 'n' roll series in its upcoming season.
The tribute concerts will feature the music of Simon and Garfunkel (Oct. 19), Michael Jackson (Jan. 18), and The Doors (May 10) at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg.
"In recent seasons, the Florida Orchestra has presented a variety of symphonic rock concerts, including Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx, as well as tributes to the music of Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Queen," said Thomas Farquhar, the orchestra's board chairman, in a statement Thursday.
"The positive community response to those concerts has encouraged the orchestra to introduce this new rock series to reach a wider audience and to better serve the broad musical interests of the Tampa Bay community," Farquhar added.
Each of the three concerts will feature special guests and conductors. Vocalists AJ Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle and conductor Michael Krajewski will join the concert for Simon and Garfunkel. For Michael Jackson, James Delisco and conductor Brent Havens will join. Randy Jackson is the guest vocalist for the music of The Doors, which is also conducted by Havens.
Tickets to individual concert are priced $35, $55, and $75. Three-concert series package is $230, including VIP seating, hospitality, and musician greeting after concerts. For more information, visit www.floridaorchestra.org.
