‘50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Update: Cast Production and Release Date Delayed Over Jamie Durnan and Charlie Hunnam, NOT Dakota Johnson? [RUMORS]

There has been another major update from the 50 Shades of Grey movie. Rumors are flying that because of the new cast, production (and possibly the release date) have been delayed. This is a result of Charlie Hunnam abandoning the role of Christian Grey and Jamie Durnan’s, who will now be starring opposite Dakota Johnson, shooting schedule.

It seems that there may be a curse surrounding the film adaptation of EL James’ Fifty Shades of Grey. First, there was a huge backlash from fans of her novel, after she announced who would be filling the roles of Christian and Anastasia.

Next, Charlie Hunnam abruptly walked away from the lead role, just weeks before filming was to begin. The announcement came via Twitter, where producers of the film stated:

“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

Many aren’t buying that statement. After all, his TV shooting schedule was known well in advance of this film.

Why theories vary, many media outlets are claiming that it was the script. According to Huffington Post, Charlie wanted to help rewrite the script. The studio, however, refused to give in:

“That led to intensified conflict between the studio and Hunnam, who shortly thereafter threatened to drop the role of Christian Grey. The actor's team reportedly advised him to keep the gig so as not to damage relations with the studio, but his mind was apparently made up.

Regardless of the reason, the studio was sent scrambling to produce a replacement for Hunnam. It is Jamie Dornan who will now portray Christian Grey on the big screen. Unfortunately, Dornan’s schedule has forced the movie to be pushed back, or so The Hollywood Reporter is saying.

One person that doesn’t seem to be causing any problems is Dakota Johnson, who will be filling the role of Anastasia Steele. In fact, she helped participate in the auditioning process, as US Weekly reports:

"Dakota was there to act against them, they did some of the heavier scenes from the script and read their chemistry. Dakota's job is solid, they know that she can handle this role and they like her for it, when you meet her and talk to her you know that she's got the character in her."
