In a move that shocked absolutely no one, Pat Robertson claims that he has the ability to cure deafness. The televangelist also told the mother that she was doing something wrong.
The controversy arose when the longtime host of The 700 Club began answering viewer letters. In a segment titled “Bring It On,” the mother speaks about her child’s deafness and seeks answers from the televangelist:
"My son is hearing impaired and cannot hear at all. I have prayed for his healing; it seems as if God is hearing-impaired.”
Even though Robertson has made a number of idiotic statements in the past, his response was classic:
“I have dealt with people who are deaf and you rebuke the spirit of deafness and they get healed and so I don't know what you're doing wrong. I don't know your son, I don't know you, I don't know what the situation is, but why don't you try that and if it doesn't work try something else."
Robertson made news over the summer as well, when he described that, “seeing gay couples on Facebook, makes me want to throw up. To me, I would punch ‘Vomit’ not ‘Like’ but they don’t give you that option on Facebook.”
Homosexual marriage is a touchy subject for Robertson, who many feel is gay, himself. In the past, he went on record as saying:
“For some reason now the Supreme Court has said homosexuality is now a constitutional right and this decision that was handed down recently by the majority glorifies this activity and talks about the civil rights and all this. Those who do that, in the Old Testament, were stoned to death.”
