Kerry Washington, of Scandal fame, will host this week’s Saturday Night Live, after Miley Cyrus showed off her twerking skills last week. Her appearance occurs shortly after being named to a prominent best-dressed list.
Ms. Washington will be hosting the legendary (and live) sketch comedy show this Saturday. Her hosting gig comes shortly after Kenan Thompson made some pretty controversial statements about why there are no black women in the cast.
In an interview, Kenan was asked about the lack of diversity on the set, specifically when it came to the role of black women. His comments caught many by surprise, when he said that there weren’t any black women who were ready for the cast.
He did, however, say that he would not portray a woman (dress in drag) until an actual black woman was hired.
Washington has yet to address the controversy. Things were notably light-hearted, when she sat down with OK! Magazine. Of course, they were more concerned with what she was wearing than the state of race relations.
In fact, they opened the interview talking about her style, asking Kerry about how it feels to make Vanity Fair’s best-dressed list and what it’s like to get accolades for her clothing choice:
“My goal has never been to be on any list, but I’m glad people like it. I try not to take it too seriously and let myself make decisions as an artist. I think the fashion and beauty stuff is fun for me because I came into it really late in life...In the beginning I really wanted to embody a more classic, traditional ladylike aesthetic, but I think I’ve become more of a risk-taker.”
