Louis Langrée Talks Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra 2016-17 Season?

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) might be going through a $3 million renovation, but that doesn't mean that Louis Langrée plans to take the year off. According to the latest news update, the 55-year-old French conductor has reached out to a who's who of today's most popular classical artist in order to keep excitement for the venue alive during its transformation. Langrée recently announced that he was able to talk Yo-Yo Ma, Lang Lang and Itzhak Perlman all into dropping by for the 2016-17 season.

While many an accomplished conductor might be willing to take advantage of their main concert hall's being renovated, the CSO's Louis Langrée is not among them.

In the latest press release from the CSO, Langrée explains that he plans to make the most out of their temporary move to the Downtown Cincinnati's historic Taft Theatre, while renovations continue on the Cincinnati Music Hall throughout their 2016-17 season:

"Looking at this season and the excellent, intimate acoustic space that the Taft Theatre provides, I wanted to program concerts that not only catered to this venue, but also to the Orchestra's strengths.

"I am also thrilled to welcome back so many friends of the CSO who will help make this one of our most inspiring seasons yet."

During his interview with Cincinati.com earlier this week, Langrée elaborated on this season's special guests, who he described as the Three Musketeers of the genre:

"Changing a hall is always challenging for any orchestra, as well as any orchestra's renovation of its hall.

"When we asked Lang Lang and Yo-Yo and Itzhak Perlman about this next season, they immediately said 'OK, I will come for the orchestra.'

"So having the Three Musketeers of classical music on the same season -- it's more than impressive. It's touching. It shows not only the respect and the admiration they have for the orchestra, but also the affection they have for it."
