Marcia Wallace Dead: 'The Simpsons'' Edna Krabappel Passes Away at Age 70

Beloved actress and TV legend Marcia Wallace passed away last week at the age of 70. Wallace was best known as the voice of Bart Simpson's teacher, Edna Krabappel, on The Simpsons and as Bob Newhart's receptionist, Carol Kester, on The Bob Newhart Show. The Emmy-winning actress died on Friday, October 25, from complications from pneumonia.

The world of television lost a legend over the weekend. Beloved actress and comic Marcia Wallace passed away at the age of 70. Wallace appeared on various TV shows over the years, including The Merv Griffin Show, The Brady Bunch, Full House, Alf and Charles in Charge, just to name a few. Wallace was also a frequent guest on celebrity game shows, like Hollywood Squares,To Tell the Truth, Match Game and $25,000 Pyramid. However, she was best known for her role as Bob Newhart's receptionist, Carol Kester, on the Bob Newhart Show. The role was written for her. Younger audiences will know Wallace as the voice of Bart Simpson's school teacher, Edna Krabappel, on The Simpsons. Wallace previously won an Emmy for the role.

Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa Simpson, tweeted her codondolances:

"Cheers to the hilarious, kind, fab Marcia Wallace, who has taken her leave of us. Heaven is now a much funnier place b/c of you, Marcia. Xx"

Earlier this year, The Simpsons' executive producer Al Jean told The Hollywood Reporter that the show was planning on killing off a beloved character, saying:

"working on a script where a character will pass away. We are doing this story for the same reason we do all others--we think it has a good emotional through line...The story will be produced this year though it may air in Season 26."

Jean went on to add, "the actor playing the character won an Emmy."

However, Jean has since confirmed that Wallace's character is not the mysterious death mentioned, in a statement on Facebook that reads:

"I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at The Simpsons and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character.

Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in which a character passed away. This was not Marcia's Edna Krabappel. Marcia's passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her."

We here at Classicalite wish Wallace's family all the best during this tough time. TV has truly lost a legend.
