Shortly after his passing was announced, rumors began circulating that Lou Reed died from a drug overdose. As of now, neither his official cause of death nor his funeral arrangements have been provided to the press, leading many to speculate on both.
Sunday was an especially sad day for indie rockers, hipsters and...well...anyone who has good taste in music. Lou Reed died at the age of 71.
Rolling Stone was among the first to report on his passing. While we are still waiting on the official cause of death, the rock magazine seems to believe it has something to do with a liver transplant he recently underwent.
His wife, Laurie Anderson, commented on his liver transplant back in May, telling the New York Times:
"I don't think he'll ever totally recover from this, but he'll certainly be back to doing [things] in a few months. He's already working and doing t'ai chi. I'm very happy. It's a new life for him."
Reed will likely be best remembered for his timeless track, “Walk on the Wild Side.” Produced by David Bowie, the song reached the number 16 position on national charts.
