Batman Vs Superman has already began filming and it’s rumored that the World's Finest might not be alone. Warner Brothers is teasing that Wonder Woman might be joining the Man of Steel and The Dark Knight in their upcoming big screen battle. The CW has also reportedly not given up on the WW prequel, Amazon.
Greg Silverman, Warner Bros. president of creative development and worldwide production, recently spoke with Variety at their Entertainment and Tech Summit. When asked about the possibility of seeing WW in Batman vs Superman, Silverman skirted around the question, saying:
"We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stories as best they can. So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about.”
However, the possibility of WW being introduced in Batman vs Superman doesn't mean that we won't still see her on the small screen. Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW network, told reporters earlier this year that they are still planning the Wonder Woman prequel series, Amazon:
“Oh God yes...It’s being redeveloped. We don’t want to produce something that doesn’t do the franchise justice. It’s the trickiest of all the DC characters.”
Tricky is a good way to describe it. There have been several failed attempts to get a live action Wonder Woman adaptation off of the ground. Back in 2011, NBC and David E. Kelley tried to reboot the original 1970's series starring Linda Carter.
Even Avengers director Joss Whedon had trouble with the Amazonian Princess. Whedon told Rookie Magazine about his version of the character, saying:
“[Wonder Woman] was a little bit like Angelina Jolie [laughs]. She sort of traveled the world. She was very powerful and very naïve about people, and the fact that she was a goddess was how I eventually found my in to her humanity and vulnerability, because she would look at us and the way we kill each other and the way we let people starve and the way the world is run and she’d just be like, ‘None of this makes sense to me. I can’t cope with it, I can’t understand, people are insane.’ And ultimately her romance with [classic Wonder Woman love interest Steve Trevor] was about him getting her to see what it’s like not to be a goddess, what it’s like when you are weak, when you do have all these forces controlling you and there’s nothing you can do about it. That was the sort of central concept of the thing. Him teaching her humanity and her saying, OK, great, but we can still do better.”
