Jakob Dylan, The Roots to Perform David Bowie Tribute Concert at Carnegie Hall March 31

Before the tragic loss of spaceman David Bowie, it was announced that a Carnegie Hall tribute concert will be held for the now late-musician on March 31. The concert still plans to go on and will feature performances from The Roots, The Mountain Goats, Jakob Dylan and more.

An onslaught of tribute concerts will more than likely be scheduled in the coming days in light of Mr. Bowie's passing. The Carnegie Hall performance, however, has been on the table since Sunday prior to the announcement.

The concert was put together by City Winery's Michael Dorf, who has long been doing tribute shows for various artists including Bob Dylan, Prince and, most recently, Bill Withers.

Proceeds from the gala will benefit organizations such as Young Audiences New York, Little Kids Rock, Church Street School of Music, the Center for Arts Education, the American Symphony Orchestra and Grammy in the Schools.

As of late, the bill should include The Roots, The Mountain Goats, Cyndi Lauper, Perry Farrell, Jakob Dylan, Heart's Ann Wilson and more. It's also noted that Bowie's longtime producer Tony Visconti will put together and head the show's house band.

Mr. Visconti was aware of Bowie's condition and dwindling health. As Stereogum put it, the concert may also be viewed as part of a "grand statement" by the artist, with live music as his offering to the world.

The article continues, "So if Bowie's death truly is part of his art, then perhaps this Carnegie Hall show can be considered part of that."

A sad day for musicians and artists everywhere, Bowie taught the world it's O.K. to feel alien and to be unique. His influence on fashion and fame will be longstanding as he leaves a major legacy behind.
