Dakota Johnson, who will be playing Anastasia Steele in the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie, has finally surfaced. Her latest public appearance came after it was announced that Jamie Dornan would be joining the cast as Christian Grey. The part remained vacant for a brief time, after Charlie Hunnam walked away from the lead role in the film adaptation of EL James’ sexy novel.
The daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson was recently photographed on the red carpet of the Vogue Fashion Fund Event. The star looked ravishing in a blue, lingerie-inspired dress.
Her appearance occurred on the same day that the movie studio announced that Jamie Dornan is the new Christian Grey. According to US Weekly, Dakota was well aware of the decision, as she had to act with all of the actors considered for the role. A source revealed:
"Dakota was there to act against them, they did some of the heavier scenes from the script and read their chemistry. Dakota's job is solid, they know that she can handle this role and they like her for it, when you meet her and talk to her you know that she's got the character in her."
Of course, these rumors come after speculation that Johnson may walk away from the film as well. A source told E! News:
“Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press. When she first got the role, it was way too much for her. It’s been tough.”
If the rumors are true, it would certainly makes sense that Dakota is apprehensive about taking the role. After all, she was bombarded with negative comments, when it was announced that she joined the film. One reader expressed their anger with the casting decision, saying:
“Dakota needs to GO! She is not the petite, pretty, doe-eyed, dainty and innocent Ana in the books. She has super small eyes, too tall, boyish body (no assets!), elongated features and angular face that make her look really old for her age - paired with the fact that she smokes and has a past of drug and alcohol abuse...I'm sure all of that is what makes her look so worn and old and her teeth gross. She is not an attractive girl - she's very homely, and that's not Ana. They can dye her hair brown and give her extensions but she still won't even come close to the character in the books. Not to mention she hardly has anything credible or worthy to her name. Charlie is okay...he isn't anything more than just another hot guy to me (and I am a big SOA fan) and Christian is STRIKING. But at least he's good looking and a good actor. They could've done a lot worse, like that did for Ana.”
