The High School Musical five-year cast reunion is officially happening. No, the private party won't be airing on the Disney Channel, but one lucky fan will win the chance to become an honorary Wildcat. Fans who donate as little as $3 to Monique Coleman's charity, GimmeMo', which provides support for youth dealing with various issues, including "teen suicide, cyber security and unemployment," will be entered to win. Unfortunately, the film's male lead, Parkland star Zac Efron, won't be in attendance. Efron's busy work schedule is forcing him to drop out of the reunion.
Actress Monique Coleman, who played Taylor McKessie in the series, first tested the waters for the reunion by tweeting:
"How cool would it be if the cast of #HSM came together for a reunion? Like real HS. It's almost been 5 years! Tell me it thoughts."
The majority of the main cast have all confirmed that they would be interested in reuniting, with the film's star Zac Efron being the only hold out. Efron recently responded to the invite, via Twitter, saying:
"Thanks for organizing the #HSMreunion @gimmemotalk! Sorry I can't be there, but I support your cause. Proud of you M… say.ly/QOA73LZ"
Coleman seemed more than understanding when she sent her reply, tweeting:
"I'll always love u @ZacEfron Thx for ur support!! I'm beyond proud of U #wildcat U know there's an open seat if u can make it #HSMreunion"
Even though Zac Efron won't be in attendance, he has reportedly offered to provide the winner with a special personalized video.
The official GimmeMo' website talks about the event, stating:
