2016 NFL Draft: Cleveland Browns Should Take Jared Goff With No. 2 Pick - QB From California

The 2015 NFL regular season is officially over, and that means the top 20 picks are locked in place. The Cleveland Browns have the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and odds are, Johnny Manziel's played his last down for that team. With just an old Josh McCown and projected career backup in Austin Davis on the roster at quarterback, chances are, they'll take that position in the first round. The question is, should they take California QB Jared Goff or Memphis' Paxton Lynch?

If I'm the Browns, the last thing I want to do is bring in a project quarterback who will take several years to develop. The fans are impatient and won't stand for several more years of non-competitive teams.

That means I want the most pro-ready quarterback I can find in this year's draft, and out of the two guys who, at this point, deserve consideration at such a high place, that's definitely gotta be Goff.

Lynch seems to have the higher ceiling, but he would really benefit from learning and developing behind a veteran for a while. The Browns don't have that luxury. So if they do decide to go quarterback, Goff is the choice here.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback has a rocket for an arm. He's had some inconsistencies this year, but still put up stellar numbers and dropped his best game of the season in Cal's bowl game against Air Force. He put up a whopping six touchdowns, and didn't turnover the ball once. He's able to move well in the pocket, despite not being a runner, and goes through his reads well. While this really isn't an ideal situation for any rookie quarterback -- unless you're a talent like Andrew Luck -- it's the best the Browns have right now.

Cleveland could even start the year with McCown at quarterback. He gets injured enough; Goff will get his shot eventually. But in the meantime, he could take the time to learn the game and offense even better at that level. There's a chance things could work out, and perhaps, finally, the Browns would have at least a decent starting quarterback to build the rest of the team around.

The best thing about Goff is that he has no character flaws or red flags. He's a leader on and off the field, and that'll certainly be a step up in their fanbase's eyes.
