Rumors are flying about the movie cast of 50 Shades of Grey. New reports are surfacing that Alexander Skarsgard, of True Blood fame, may be up for the role of Christian Grey. These new announcements follow the news that Charlie Hunnam quit the highly anticipated film. His exit, which caught many by surprise, has also inspired rumors that Dakota Johnson, who will be playing Anastasia Steele, may also drop out.
Charlie Hunnam made international headlines when he walked away from the coveted role of Christian Grey. While many felt that Charlie couldn’t handle the fame and negative fan backlash, the studio insisted that a scheduling conflict is what prevented the actor from fulfilling his commitment. They issued the following statement:
“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
Now that it’s official, the studio is racing to fill the vacancy Charlie created with his departure. He’s also generated a ton of rumors as to who might replace him. According to the International Business Times, there are two actors leading the short list:
“The top contenders for the role are reportedly none other than “True Blood’s” Alexander Skarsgard and Australian actor Luke Bracey. But before fans get into a tizzy over Skarsgard’s name being linked to the role, the source claims that the part will go to a lesser known actor…likely Bracey.”
Of course, the studio may need to find another Anastasia too, if you believe the latest rumors. The good folks over at E! News are reporting that Dakota Johnson is having some trepidation about the part. According to an alleged source, Dakota is thinking of walking away from the lead role of Anastasia Steele.
“Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press. When she first got the role, it was way too much for her. It’s been tough.”
If Dakota does walk away, it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Since EL James announced the casting choices on Twitter, fans have been vocal about their disdain of the young actress. One user of Classicalite spoke about her frustration, telling us:
“Charlie isn't Christian to me, but he isn't NEARLY as bad as Dakota for Ana. They need to recast Ana for sure. Dakota looks ancient. Her features are very mature and nothing like Ana's, and I'm sure the fact that she has a drug and alcohol past and is a smoker isn't helping! She's kinda gross.”
