From the outside, this looks like it should be a blowout in favor of LSU. The stage is set with Les Miles retaining his job after swarming rumors saying that he was surely gone; the players want to win this game for him. Truly, there's no doubt about that. Every player on this roster was recruited by Miles, and came there to play for him. Especially in college, losing your coach would be hard, and they will be motivated to come out and play for his job heading into next season.
LSU also has this one guy, a running back -- not sure if you've heard of him -- named Leonard Fournette.
Yeah, he's pretty good.
Now something you may or may not know is what Texas Tech does not have: a run defense. Like, at all. They're horrible at stopping the run.
In 2015, only two Division-I FBS programs gave up more yards on the ground per game. The Red Raiders allowed 271.8 yards per game at a 5.92 yard-per-carry clip, as well as 42 rushing touchdowns. And they haven't played anybody in the same stratosphere as Fournette.
Suffice to say, LSU has a huge advantage going into this game, not only emotionally for Les Miles, but physically with a dominant rushing attack against a pathetic run defense.
Texas Tech's saving grace is their offense. Obviously, something had to be good about them to have won seven games and earned a spot in the Texas Bowl. They're second in the country in both yards per game and points per game. That said, LSU's defense isn't too shabby, and this will be a case of, can Texas Tech's offense play mistake-free football and somehow keep up with the amount of points the defense is likely to allow?
Of that, I am not too sure.
Prediction: LSU 41, Texas Tech 34
