Make no mistake, Jaap Blonk remains the world's foremost sound poet. The Dutch vocalist's brilliant performance of the Stanford-commissioned Polyphtong--as well as the entirety of Kurt Schwitters' Ursonate, from memory--at Roulette last week more than prove that assertion.
What you might not know, though, is that Jaap Blonk is also one of the world's foremost scholars of sound poetry. Paul Scheerbart, Christian Morgenstern, Hugo Ball, Raoul Hausmann, Theo van Doesburg, Man Ray and, of course, Schwitters' Ursonate all make an appearance in this slide-enhanced pre-concert lecture.
Fumms bö wö tää zää Uu, pögiff, kwii Ee? You got it, Prof. Blonk.
