‘50 Shades of Grey’ 2013 Movie Cast News: Dakota Johnson to Quit After Charlie Hunnam Dropped Christian Role? [RUMORS]

More rumors are flying about the cast of the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie. The latest rumors indicate that Dakota Johnson may quit the film. This comes after Charlie Hunnam made international news by dropping out of the picture and abandoning the coveted role of Christian Grey.

The latest allegations come from the good folks over at E! News. According to an alleged source, Dakota is thinking of walking away from the lead role of Anastasia Steele.

“Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press. When she first got the role, it was way too much for her. It’s been tough.”

If the young actress does walk away from the film, it could potentially spell disaster for the studio. After all, Charlie just quit last week and the negative PR storm has been staggering.

Despite rampant speculation that Charlie quit over an astonishing amount of fan backlash, the studio insists that it was a scheduling conflict:

“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

Another potential reason for his exit was the script. Multiple media outlets reported that the hunk insisted on a script rewrite. According to HuffPo, the studio refused and Charlie decided to walk away:

“That led to intensified conflict between the studio and Hunnam, who shortly thereafter threatened to drop the role of Christian Grey. The actor's team reportedly advised him to keep the gig so as not to damage relations with the studio, but his mind was apparently made up.

“In an effort to appease the star, Universal hired Patrick Marber ("Closer," "Notes on a Scandal") to do some rewrites on the script -- but the next day Hunnam announced his departure. (The official reason cited was Hunnam's production schedule on "Sons of Anarchy," but "50 Shades" is slated to begin work after production on "Anarchy" ends.)”
