Last week, rumors were flying that Ellen was distancing herself from Bethenny Frankel’s disastrous talk show. According to reports, Portia’s wife told the former ‘RHONY’ star to stop discussing her ongoing divorce from Jason Hoppy and fix her low ratings. But since then, Ellen made a surprise appearance to set things straight.
After numerous media outlets reported that Ellen was cutting ties with Frankel, Degeneres made a surprise appearance (via satellite) on Bethenny’s show. The highly-successful talk show host wanted to clear the air about the recent allegations, telling Frankel and her audience:
“Let me say this - because I only hear about this stuff I don't really pay attention to what's in the press. But I did hear that there was a story that I was distancing myself from you and from the show and I wanted my name off of the show. I think people think, as Andy Cohen said on your show the other day, that there is always a tiny bit of truth to any rumor that you read.”
Of course, this is a much different story than the tabloids were painting a few days ago. Ellen may be known for being America’s sweetheart, but she was accused of offering up Bethenny some pretty harsh advice. According to a source who spoke to Radar Online, Ellen told Bethenny to stop talking about her divorce:
“Ellen wants Bethenny to stop yakking about the divorce because there is a public perception that she’s to blame for the split. Jason is very sympathetic figure — a doting dad — and quite frankly, many of Bethenny’s viewers and fans don’t understand why she dumped him. Whenever Bethenny opines about how hard the divorce has been on her and bemoans that Jason wasn’t the love of her life, viewers turn the channel. This is one of the major factors contributing to Bethenny’s very weak ratings.”
