Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul Returning for 'Breaking Bad' Spin-Off 'Better Call Saul?'

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is returning to AMC with the spin-off series, Better Call Saul, and he just might be bringing Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul with him.

Vince Gilligan knows a thing or two about the risk of developing a spin-off. The former X Files writer was also linked to the ill fated follow up, The Lone Gunmen. However, Gilligan is determined to continue, telling The Hollywood Reporter:

"There's obviously a danger inherent in doing a spinoff, but I just love the character of Saul Goodman [Bob Odenkirk] so much, and part of me doesn't want to say no to this world."

Creator Vince Gilligan and writer Peter Gould are developing the new series. Originally conceived as a half hour comedy, the pair decided to transform the idea into an hour long drama:

"We're both one-hour drama guys... So we figured, 'Why not shoot Saul in the same way?' Let's shoot it in Albuquerque, let's get as much of the crew back together as possible, and let's do it the way we did it before so that it will be of a piece with that pre-existing fictional universe that we had so much fun creating."

The look and location aren't the only familiar bits that will be making a comeback. Both Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul (among other former cast members) have expressed an interest in making a few appearances. Gilligan added that they might just get their wish:

"Personally, I'd have a hard time resisting putting all these guys in for a cameo or two every now and then"

The door is open for deceased characters to make their return, seeing as how the show will be a prequel. AMC and Sony Pictures first announced the decision in a joint statement:

"As conceived, the new series is based on the show's popular Saul Goodman character with the working title Better Call Saul. Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character [played by Bob Odenkirk] before he ever became Walter White's lawyer."
