The Voice is one of the hottest singing competitions on TV. OK, it might be the last singing competition left on TV, but still. Some of the shows big winners have gone to become household names like….and… OK, so maybe they really go on to become household names. That is exactly why fans are concerned about the future of Season 9 winner Jordan Smith. Recently, Smith’s coach Adam Levine opened up about how Republic Records has done a less than stellar job with the past winners. Blake Shelton, he is a household name! Oh wait, he is a coach. Well somebody has to know about one of the past winners.
During a post-finale press conference, Adam Levine discussed remarks he made to Howard Stern about how Republic Records (Part of the Universal Music group) had mismanaged other winners in the past, stating (via Yahoo Music):
"There have been shortcomings on the other side of this fence, and that’s not shocking or surprising, it’s just true. Jordan has had more success on iTunes than most artists ever have… This is a no-brainer, and this kid is so special. Musically, talent-wise, spiritually, on a human level, on every level, this guy deserves the most success imaginable.”
Levine wants to leave make sure that Jordan’s career is in the best hands from this point on, adding:
"It’s great because we bring everybody to this beautiful point where there are cameras rolling and everybody wants to know this guy and everyone wants to hear more music from this guy. So the baton has been passed to the record label, and hopefully, they will do right by Jordan Smith.
”Right, Republic Records? You will do right by Jordan Smith. And that’s all I have to say about that.”
Later Jordan said that he wanted to release some new music as soon as possible, to which Levine responded:
“As soon as possible, Universal Records. As soon as possible. Thank you.”
