‘50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Cast Update: Charlie Hunnam Drops Out as Jamie Dornan, Theo James, Christian Cooke and Alexander Skarsgard Battle for Christian Grey Role [RUMORS]

Rumors are flying as to who will join the 50 Shades of Grey movie cast, since Charlie Hunnam has dropped out. While no announcements have been made, there are some possible contenders for the role of Christian Grey. That not-so-short-list consists of Jamie Dornan, Theo James, Christian Cooke and Alexander Skarsgard.

Charlie Hunnam surprised a lot of folks when he announced that he would be walking away from the year’s most talked about film. The announcement came just weeks before the project was slated to begin filming.

In a somewhat puzzling press statement, the studio producing the film seemed to blame his withdrawal on a scheduling conflict. According to their official statement:

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

This struck many as odd, considering Charlie was well aware of his shooting schedule before accepting the gig. It likely has more to do with the amount of fan backlash he received after accepting the role.

Thousands of EL James fans expressed their outrage over the casting decision. Immediately following the author’s announcement as to who would be playing the lead in the upcoming film, thousands of Twitter followers harshly criticized the decision, with many calling for his ouster.

Now that Charlie has officially dropped out, the guessing game is in full swing. Gossip site The Stir took a stab at who could possibly play Christian:

“...The short list includes Jamie Dornan of the U.K. series The Fall and Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood. The studio also is revisiting its initial list of possible contenders, including Theo James and Christian Cooke. Apparently, they'd also love Garrett Hedlund, who had received an informal offer during the first round of casting, but he's unavailable due to his schedule on Angelina Jolie's Unbroken, which starts shooting this week in Australia.”

We want to know what you think. Will any of these actors satisfy fans of the book? Are you sad that Charlie quit? Tell us your thoughts below.
