True Star Wars fans know that Jar Jar Binks was the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise. Far worse than any damage that Emperor Palpatine could dream up or any Christmas (Life Day) special do to the franchise. However, until recently no one really thought of him as evil. Awful yes, but evil…..No. He was always the silly slapstick prone, borderline racist caricature that ruined the franchise and made Episode 1 virtually unwatchable. Now a new fan theory is making the rounds proposing that Jar Jar was really a Sith Lord who used the drunken fist technique and comedic deception to work his way into the Jedi’s inner circle and become a member of the Galactic Senate. After all he is from the same planet as Palpatine, and has the same eyes common in Sith Lords. Binks was also the one that purposed democracy be suspended and put Palpatine in power. That has lead many to believe that Jar Jar was the real Phantom Menace and intended to be main villain in Episode 2 until poor fan reception lead to his role being diminished and replaced with Count Dooku (Darth Tryanus). The rumor also goes on to speculate that Jar Jar might be the main villain of the new trilogy, Supreme Leader Snoke. Recently, Snoke actor Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) opened up about the rumor, confirming that he is playing an evil Jar Jar. However this was done on Conan, so take that for what it is. Check out the video below to see for yourself.
Recently, Star Wars Episode 7 director JJ Abrams opened up about the theory, telling fans at a Sirius XM town hall (via Entertainment Weekly):
“I’m sure there are some [Fan Theories] I don’t know, but the one I heard that I think is so great is the Jar Jar is a Sith one… There was this unbelievably lengthy analysis, in a very seriously thought-out way, as to why it’s obviously true that he is [evil]. That to me is remarkable.”
