It’s been a big news week for the ladies over at the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Melissa Gorga defended her “marital rape” comments, while Teresa Giudice has sworn to remain by her husband Joe’s side. The couple is facing an upcoming fraud trial that could lead to their arrest.
Melissa Gorga shocked the world when she was out promoting her book, Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage. In an interview given to Star, the reality star said some puzzling things about how women should treat their husbands:
“Treat your man like the king, and in return you will be the queen. I truly believe that.”
Star questioned Melissa’s statement, which came off to many as sexist against women. Gorga defended her comments and told the magazine:
“It’s going to be controversial, and I get that. You can still be a successful woman, but when your husband gets home, greet him at the door and make him feel like the man. Maybe you didn’t have time to cook, but you can order Chinese food and put it on a plate.”
Her comments lead many to believe that Melissa was advocating marital rape. In a recent interview with OK!, the housewife stood by her statement:
“I truly believe what I said. If you treat him like the king, you will be queen. I know that he respects me as a wife and a mother. When I’m not in the mood, Joe doesn’t force me to do ANYTHING.”
Gorga’s not the only one who is facing public scrutiny. The Giudices also find themselves at the heart of a scandal.
Joe and Teresa are accused of nearly 40 fraud charges. If convicted, they could be sentenced to 50 years in prison and millions of dollars in fines and fees.
In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Teresa said, "I love my husband more than anything and I will stand by him to the end.”
Of course, Teresa also admitted that she didn’t fully understand some of the charges levied against her. She told E! News:
"Some of the charges I don't understand, but I am learning. I am understanding what they are. Of course, I'm not in denial, I understand everything. My husband and I pleaded not guilty and that day in court will come. I want to answer everyone's questions, but I can't and I have been advised by my attorney."
Do you believe that Teresa is innocent? Should Melissa apologize for her statement? Tell us what you think in the comment field below.
