'Transformers 4: Age of Extinction:' New Toys Reveal Optimus Prime Updated Look, Action Figure Release Date Announced [PICS]

For nearly thirty years , Transformers toys have been a staple of pop culture. The concept of a car that could change into a giant robot has captured the imaginations of children and adults alike. Now the latest incarnation of the beloved action figure line has revealed the first toy in it's Transformers 4: Age of Extinction movie line. The new look for Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader, rolls out ahead of the film with a May 2014 release date.

Hasbro, the toy company behind the Transformers line, held a special press event before the 2013 New York Comic Con this past weekend. During the event, they displayed the very first look at Optimus Prime from the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction movie line:

"Here it is—Transformers Generations Leader Scale Optimus Prime, the very first figure revealed from Transformers: Age of Extinction! You can get your hands on him in May 2014"

In the new film, Optimus Prime takes on the form of a Western Star Big Rig. Earlier this year, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, confirmed the redesign for both Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, when he spoke to Beijing News:

“I can not disclose the specifics, but you can be sure that the joining of the Dinobots will give the audience new excitement. In addition to Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, the appearance of these classic roles changed, today the world’s coolest, most exciting cars will appear in the film, including China’s vehicles, whether you are a car enthusiast, you will feast your eyes and be shocked by them.”

Michael Bay also released pictures of Bumblebee's vehicle mode on his website, commenting:

"Trumpets please . . . Bumblebee, a 2014 Concept Camaro! . . . the final jewel in the Transformers 4 crown."

Transformers: Age of Extinction opens June 27, 2014, with the first wave of the new action figure line rolling out in May 2014.
