Last night Glee aired it's farewell to Finn tribute episode titled "The Quarterback." Cast, crew and fans all got to mourn the passing of Cory Monteith together. WARNING this recap contains SPOILERS.
"The show must go.....all over the place." The quote that now graces the glee club room walls, says a lot about the episode. Thursday night's tribute kept it light by not touching on the specifics of Hudson's death, as his in-show step-brother Kurt puts it, "Everyone wants to talk about how he died, but who cares."
The show, touching, yet cheesy at moments, kept it simple. Jane Lynch's character, Sue Sylvester, even referenced this approach by nearly breaking the fourth wall, saying that they weren't going to make a, "Self serving spectacle out of our own sadness"
Some of the songs featured were Rent's "Seasons of Love" and the Band Perry's "If I Die Young." But it was Monteith's real life and on screen girlfriend Lea Michele's heart wrenching rendition of Bob Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love" that really brought out the tears.
You could feel the sense of real life, when Lea Michele's character Rachel said "He was my person."
Michele recently opened up to TV Week Australia about the episode:
"I feel like, for me personally, I've lost two people: Cory and Finn. We had a beautiful memorial for Cory in the auditorium and some of the cast members sang and people spoke about him. It only felt right that we would do the same thing for Finn, so I felt it was very therapeutic. Everyone is asking, ‘Is it hard to do this? Is it hard to be back at work? But the truth is, it's no harder at work than it is in life, so we might as well all be together as a family supporting each other to get through this together."
