The real-time orchestra drama Mozart in the Jungle has been given a second season. This December 30, the next installment will air on Amazon Prime as part of its own venture into original content.
The series is based on the critically acclaimed memoir by Blair Tindall. The half-hour comedic drama has a unique twist on the standard "finding yourself in the concrete jungle" love story in that it incorporates one of New York's oldest traditions: classical music.
Yes, there is something unique about the story, which stars Gael Garcia Bernal as the handsome maestro Rodrigo (and who is known for his hair style). His love interest, the young oboist Hailey (Lola Kirke), helps the burgeoning conductor in navigating his way through the tumultuous New York City landscape, certainly a departure from your normal com-dram.
However, in the new trailer we see Rodrigo and Hailey running off to Mexico, the maestro coping with success and jealousy and a brief cameo from Jason Schwartzman talking about the merits of "rhinoceros foreskin."
Much like the current status of symphonies in the U.S., the trailer also reveals that the orchestra is on the verge of strike. From what we can see, the pitfalls of being brilliant and keeping an entire company afloat are trials a new conductor must face head on.
The series also is the directorial debut for Schwartzman, including more episodes directed by the creators themselves (Schwartzman being one of them).
Nonetheless, the second season of Mozart in the Jungle will be available for your viewing pleasure this December and will be yet another addition to Amazon's expansion of original content.
