'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' Canceled or Renewed? ABC Makes Announcement On Shows Fate [UPDATE]

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, the television spin-off of the smash hit Avengers, was one of the most anticipated new series of the fall. The debut episode broke ratings records with over 12 million viewers. However, the success dropped down over 30 percent for the weeks following, leaving many wondering if the freshmen series would make it to a second season. The big question is, will the Disney-owned show be renewed or will it get canceled, despite the ties to it's big screen successor? ABC has finally made an announcement about the shows fate and the answer is...neither.

ABC has yet to decide if it wants to give S.H.I.E.L.D a second season but has bought the show some more time. The network announced that it is extending the show to a full season order. It what is typically referred to as the back nine, the network will extend the show's 13 episode season to a full 22.

Where the shows ratings have significantly dropped, it still brings in enough viewers to come in second for it's time slot. However, the show's weak lead-in means its lower ratings have a negative impact on the rest of the Tuesday night line up. It would not be surprising if the show was moved to a new night and/or time slot, if it is picked up for Season 2.

The list of canceled and renewed new series is growing fast. So far ABC's Lucky 7 and CBS' We Are Men have both been axed. NBC's The Blacklist and Fox' Sleepy Hollow have both been renewed after only a few episodes.
