The first free DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront, Battle of Jakku, is a tie-in to and comes out shortly before The Force Awakens. Here's what to expect.
In a marketing tie-in stunt worthy of Mordor, EA has set the first of the free DLC's for Star Wars: Battlefront on Jakku, the planet from The Force Awakens trailer where we saw a crashed Star Destroyer. In fact, one of the two maps/modes in the DLC is the fight that brought down the destroyer. Players fight as Rebels trying to wipe out one of the last Imperial strongholds or as Imperials trying to hold out another day. Yet another empire falls. Oh well.
I'm really curious about this mode. Does Darth Vader show up? We all know he shouldn't, but did EA do their usual and take a giant dump on what should be? One can only hope that they at least they don't bring Vader back.
"Set on desert planet Jakku 29 years before the events of The Force Awakens, Battle of Jakku will feature an all new game mode entitled Turning Point." This is a 20 vs 20 mode where the the Rebels are trying to take out an Imperial Base. Think of it like Hoth in reverse, except that "Once the Rebels have initiated a takeover of an Imperial base, Empire forces cannot reclaim it." It should be interesting to see how that mode works. Personally, I can't wait to fry me some Rebels trying to knock out the last bit of the Empire regardless of how well (or poorly) it turns out.
If you pre-ordered the game, you'll have access to Battle of Jakku already. For anyone who didn't spring for Star Wars: Battlefront early, December 8th is the day everyone else gets to raid the Imps.
