Eleven years into playing Meredith Grey on Shonda Rhimes hit ABC medical drama, Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo knows what it is like to land a choice acting gig and thinks that such things ought to be appreciated. According to the latest gossip news updates, Pompeo took offense at Daniel Craig's recently slamming his James Bond role -- saying he'd rather slit his wrists than play 007 in even one more movie. Mrs. McDreamy attacked the British heartthrob as needing a reality check. Sometime later, Pompeo attempted to apologize on Twitter -- explaining that she sometimes takes her job for granted too, although she knows she shouldn't.
When Daniel Craig was asked about his potentially taking up the mantel of James Bond for yet another movie following Spectre, 007 didn't beat around the bush (via Entertainment Weekly):
"I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists.
"No, not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on."
It seems that Ellen Pompeo took particular offense to Craig's slagging off the job security that comes with being Bond and called him out of Twitter.
During a visit to SiriusXM's Radio Andy earlier this month, Pompeo explained to Bevy Smith that she understood that Criag's comments may not truly reflect his feeling about the role, but she still felt it was tacky to come off as so unappreciative of playing 007 (via People):
"I've said many a stupid thing...I'm guilty of it, too. I complain. And sometimes we need a reality check
"There's people out there who can't put food on their table, who don't have the money to clothe their babies, and they have real problems.
"And sometimes we get a little crazy and spoiled."
For his part, Craig has since explained on the Today show that his comments about slitting his wrists had more to do with the timing of the question than it did actual his attitude towards being Bond:
"If you're 200 hundred yards from the end of a marathon and someone comes running up to you and says, 'Are you gonna run another marathon?' there's two words you use...And not on a morning show!
"You know, I've had massive amounts of fun making [Spectre] -- probably more fun on this film than I have on all of the others put together.
"And the simple answer at the moment is: I don't want to think about it. I want to think about other things. I want to go home."
What do you think about Ellen Pompeo calling out Daniel Craig on Twitter?
Is that just as classless as complaining about the role of a lifetime?
Or, was Meredith Grey right to remind Craig that he has it better than 99 percent of the actors working in Hollywood today?
Let us hear what you have to say about it in the comment field below.
