Spoiler Alert: This week The Flash and Arrow come together again for another epic crossover event. This new team-up helps to set up the upcoming spin-off series, Legends of Tomorrow, as our heroes face off against Vandal Savage. However, there is a lot more going on. Earth 2’s Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) has come up with a serum (Velocity 9) that can amplify Barry’s (Grant Gustin) speed, but he needs to test it on Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) first.
The official plot synopsis for this week’s crossover episode of The Flash, titled “Legends of Today,” reads:
“A crossover episode with ‘Arrow’ begins with Vandal Savage attacking Kendra and Cisco. Barry then takes Kendra to Star City and asks Oliver to hide her until he can stop Vandal. But Hawkman, a man with wings, shows up and flies off with Kendra. Meanwhile, Harrison develops a serum to make Barry run faster and asks Jay to test it.”
Just because Barry is heading to Star City, it doesn’t mean we won’t be spending any time Star Labs. It looks like tonight's the night Jay Garrick gets his speed back thanks Harrison Wells and a little substance that in comics is called Velocity 9, a serum that grants speed powers to users. However, the drug comes at a cost, aging the user prematurely as well as a host of other sideeffects. In the comics Velocity 9 has ties to both Legends of Tomorrow villain Vandal Savage, and Jesse Quick’s father, who in this universe is Harrison Wells.
Recently, Jay Garrick actor spoke to EW’s Spoiler Room where he gave some more details about Velocity 9 and gaining back his stolen speed:
“When Jay Garrick returns, he may actually find some common ground with Wells for once, though it won’t be easy.Jay is summoned to S.T.A.R. Labs in an urgent matter from Wells. Jay shows up only to find out that Wells wants Jay to be his guinea pig. He is toying with a substance that has its history in the lore of The Flash, so it’s something from the comics. He wants to try it on Jay to see if it works because he wants to use this on Barry in their fight to bring down Zoom. Jay doesn’t react very well to that. He doesn’t want to be a part of Wells’ schemes. There will be some life threatening moments in there and we have to use a combination of science and ingenuity and Wells’ mysterious substance to get to a safe conclusion.”
Be sure to tune into the first part of the Arrow/Flash crossover, Tuesday, Dec 1 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
