The virus is spreading faster than ever before. It has been officially announced that The Walking Dead will have an earlier international air date. Blood thirsty Dead fans in America will still have wait until Sunday to get a bite of the highly rated drama, but international viewers will get a taste the very next day.
It's highly unusual for a show the size and scope of The Walking Dead to air around the world within a 48 hour span. However, it has been announced that the show will broadcast in 125 different countries, just one day after its American premiere, in an effort to reduce piracy.
Fox International Channel chief marketing officer Liz Dolan talked with The Wrap about the new dates for the marketing campaign.
“When we did the first three seasons of ‘The Walking Dead,’ delivering it within a week was ground-breaking.That was the fastest global launch in the history of television. Because of FIC’s scale, we have the uncommon luxury of huge, cross-demo reach. Just last week our team in Japan staged a zombie invasion which at a baseball game, was immediately seen across our Fox Sports networks there. You can get really creative with what you do on this show, and our teams around the world have been very effective in pushing the boundaries. It is every marketer’s dream.”
She also discussed the motivations for the change:
“We want to prevent the spoilers for sure, we also want to make sure [international viewers] get the best version of the show — not some pirated version. But we also want them to get it super fast.”
Now if they can only do something to keep spoilers off of Facebook and Twitter.
The dead will rise when, The Walking Dead Season 4 makes its debut this Sunday, October, 13 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
